A Message from the State
Deputy
Brother Knights, Can you
believe winter is just about here and we are still enjoying such fine
weather!
Fall is a time for
harvest
dinners and Nancy and I have certainly been enjoying attending yours. It’s
great to witness knights in action at
these parish events. Fall is
also
a time for soccer.
Our thanks go to the
knights who hosted this year’s Soccer Challenge in Ludlow. With
just a little chill in the air we had a
beautiful day for the event and everyone had a lot of fun.
Congratulations
to all the participants and
winners. Getting
to
the Soccer Challenge was a stark reminder of the devastation left by
Irene.
Even after many of the
repairs
had been completed damage was visible wherever you looked.
I
am pleased to report that our Supreme
Council through the recently established Second Responders Program has
made
funds available to help our local knights affected by the storm. I
would like to thank our Grand Knights and
District Deputies for gathering the names of our knights affected. Assistance
checks are being processed and
will soon be distributed. For most
of
us the there just aren’t enough hours in the day during
summer and early
fall.
Now however we should
be able to
charge full speed ahead with our council activities and our membership
drives.
Council activities will
foster increased
membership.
Contact the men of your
parishes and tell them about your council activities.
Speak
to them individually and invite them to
join the Knights of Columbus.
Work with
our State Membership Director and your District Deputy to schedule
recruitment
drives in your parishes.
During
November I will be attending the annual Mid-Year State Deputy Meeting.
As part
of the preparation for presentation at this meeting I have been asked
to list
the things that Vermont councils do the best.
When you review all the
support we provide for our seminarians, for
Special Olympics, Camps O’Hagan and Ta-Kum-Ta, our support
for life and those
who are not able to defend themselves, just to name a few, the only
difficulty
it poses is to name the top three activities.
Brother Knights so many
people rely on our works of charity. Just
imagine how much more we could do with
new members in every council.
It’s time
to step up to the challenge and grow our order. Vivat
Jesus! Tom Curran, SD Vocations Refund Support Vocations Program
(RSVP) The Knights of Columbus has always worked hard to encourage young men and women to consider God’s call to service in the priesthood or religious life. The lay apostolate must respond to the constant call for active involvement in the work of the Church. Your council has the numbers, the organization, and the communication ability to get involved and spread the word throughout the Christian community. Under the motto “Keep the Faith Alive,” the Order’s vocations initiative has a number of programs based on prayer and designed to reach the hearts and minds of young people, as well as to provide financial support during their years of seminary training or religious formation. In keeping with Knights of Columbus tradition, an attractive new vocations tool has been released that should serve as the centerpiece of your council's vocations programs. The DVD – "Everyone Has a Vocation to Love. What’s Yours?" (#50046) – combines five Knights of Columbus vocations films onto one digital video disk. Featured are The Vocation to the Priesthood, The Vocation to the Religious Life for Men, The Vocation to the Religious Life for Women, The Vocation to Marriage and the recently completed, The Vocation of the Laity. Although the focus of the Order’s vocations programs is on encouraging men to consider the priesthood or religious life and women to consider religious life, the DVD also includes films on the lay vocations to underline the fact that everyone is called through their Baptism to serve God, the Church and their neighbors. The heart of the Order’s vocations effort continues to be the (RSVP) Refund Vocations program by which assemblies, councils and Squires circles provide monetary and moral support for seminarians and postulants who are preparing for the priesthood or religious life. 1. Locate a candidate to support. If you need help, contact your state K of C vocations director. 2. After a candidate’s name and address is secured, prepare and send a letter of introduction from your council, assembly or circle. 3. Define how the relationship will be managed. 4. Define how money will be exchanged or presented. 5. When presenting money to an RSVP candidate, notify the diocesan vocations director and K of C vocations Director. 6. Take photos and send them to your local and diocesan newspapers, and Columbia magazine. Be sure caption information is complete and each individual’s name is spelled correctly. 7. RSVP assistance also involves prayer and moral support. Make at least one personal visit to each seminarian, and send four letters – i.e.: birthday, Christmas, Easter, and welcome back to school greetings – each fraternal year. 8. Encourage members and their families to keep seminarian or postulant in their prayers; make personal visits to them; and send communications throughout the year – i.e. birthday, Christmas, Easter greetings. Please contact me for information on a seminarian or seminarians to support. You can E-mail me at gfbean44@yahoo.com. Or call at 862-8581. Also if you have already given financial support to a seminarian for the year (July 1, 11- June 30, 12 please send me a copy of form 2863 (RSVP form) . As I write this column, Thanksgiving will be upon us shortly. On behalf of myself and my wife Pauline We would like to wish all our Brother Knights and Families a Very Happy and Blessed Thanksgiving. ”Vocations are

Jesus! Vocations Chairman Family of the Month The following councils submitted a "Family of the Month" to Supreme for the month of August:
What is it? An opportunity to recognize a council members’ family through Supreme – every month (July – June), if each council so chooses. One hundred submissions are picked at random at Supreme. If picked, the council member receives a plaque – directly from Supreme. Councils are encouraged to recognize recipients on the local level, as well. How to submit someone? Once a member (and family) are selected, simply go to the Supreme website (click here) (Google Chrome cannot be used to fill out the online form) fill out the online form (1993A) and press submit. It’s easy as pie. NOTE: At the bottom of the form, use the following email in lieu of the State Deputy: FormsChairman@vtkofc.com (Dennis Smith) To mail the form via USPS, fill out the form, print it out and mail it to the Supreme address located at the bottom of the form. Each month, I get a list of councils who make submissions and all winners who were drawn. This will be posted to the State KofC website. If your council is gets a winner, please send me a photo to post on the web. Vivat Jesus! Bernie Perron 2437 Middlebrook Rd Ferrisburgh, VT 05456 877-3971 bdperron@gmail.com |
