A message from the State Deputy
Brothers, with the first of July
comes the beginning of a new fraternal year.
I call your attention to resolutions #17, which states that on July 11,
2010, the Vermont State Council will sponsor a Pilgrimage to St. Anne’s shrine
in Isle La Motte. As part of this pilgrimage, the installation of State
Officers will take place at the 12:15 Mass, with State Chaplain Rev. Karl Hahr
as the celebrant. At 3:00 p.m. there will be a recitation of the Rosary led by
our District Deputies. Therefore, I call upon all knights in the jurisdiction
of The beginning of the fraternal year is also a great time for a council to reflect on what they were able to accomplish last year, those programs where they excel, and those areas, which may need some improvement. In other words, set council goals for the year and make plans for how the council can reach those goals in a specific period of time. It may sound simple, but in reality it’s a difficult process of trial and error. However, it is a necessary process for a successful council. An example
of a very successful program held last year was the “Food for Families”
program, which most councils participated in.
If you recall, the Supreme Council stated that if a sufficient number of
councils in a jurisdiction took part in and reported their results to Supreme,
Supreme would contribute to a food for the needy program in the diocese. I am pleased to report that as the result of
your efforts I presented Bishop Matano a check, from Supreme, for $ 4,330.00
for needy families in Another example of where there is room for improvement is in the number of our degree teams. We have only eleven First Degree teams on record at Supreme. A candidate is not a member until he takes his First Degree. Therefore, our small number of teams may have a negative impact on membership growth. If your council does not have a degree team, a goal for your council this year maybe to establish one by January 2011. For those councils that have a team, it is critically important that your team stay active by holding a degree or a practice at least every other month. A suggestion is to make a schedule of degree and practice dates and share that information with nearby councils. We are also in need of Second Degree teams. We should have an active Second Degree team in each district. We have a long way to go before we reach that goal. Arrangements are being made for the Anchor Award Banquet. The recipient of the award will be Steve Shover of St. John Vianney Council #7525. The banquet will be held on Saturday September 11, 2010 and will be held at home of Council #7525. More information will be coming soon. I have had several inquires about
the 2011 State Convention. Plans are in
the works and I am pleased to announce that the 113th Annual
Convention of the Knights of Columbus for the Jurisdiction of Vermont will be
held on April 29, 30 and May1, 2011. The location will be the beautiful Mount
Snow Grand Summit Resort off route 100 in One last item, the Grand Knights Workshop will be August 28th at Council 399’s council home in Barre. To all outgoing Grand Knights, A sincere Thank You for all you have done for your Council, your parish, your community and the Knights of Columbus. I am most grateful for the support you have given to me this past year and God bless you and your family. Vivat Jesus Florian Wawrzyniak ![]() State Chaplains Message Dear Brother Knights, As children we are taught the Pledge of Allegiance as an oath of loyalty to our flag and country. The Knights can be proud of their efforts which resulted in the addition of the words: "under God," which became official in 1954 under President Eisenhower. Our nation needs to remain "under God," just as the founding fathers intended, and our laws need to reflect God's law. He who made us and the world that we live in knows how that world should be. He knows how we should live in the world. Not everyone believes that, but that doesn't make it any less true. There is such a thing as objective truth, and our Faith teaches us that we who are guided by the law of God and His holy Church, have access to that truth. We have access to that truth and we live in a country that allows us as individuals to influence those who govern us. Because of that we need to do our best to shape the laws and policies of this nation. We don't need to apologize for insisting that the laws of our country reflect the laws of God. Because we know the truth that freedom misused leads to death, but freedom that allows us to choose the good, leads to life. It is not kind or merciful to allow someone to persist in sin, even if that person thinks that his sin is good. The relativistic argument that my truth is not the same as your truth may work to further a person's political standing in this world, but it's meaningless when we come before the throne of God. When I come before Truth Himself, if my truth isn't in conformity with Him, then I've got some big problems. Jesus says Come to Me all you who labor under the burden of sin, I will give you rest. I will make you free He says. Do we believe that? If we do believe then we'll help others also to believe, even in the area of national politics; using our voice to shape the laws and policies that govern our nation. On the 4th of July we remember our independence as a nation and those who sacrificed themselves to win it, and keep it, for us. It should remind us of a sacrifice even more dear: the Sacrifice of Jesus Christ, who won for humanity a true freedom, by which we no longer need to live under the burden of sin. He gives us rest through the spilling of His most precious Blood. In this month of July, which is dedicated to the Most Precious Blood of Jesus Christ, may we remember the cost of freedom, and be resolved to live that freedom, and use our power to help others to be truly free. Correcting the sinner that he may not be a slave of sin. Correcting the laws that govern our country, that all Americans may be helped in choosing the path of goodness – even those who don't believe.
